God goes googling …

“Paul, I was just looking through some of my old clippings the other day …

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” Exodus 20:8-11

“Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and so that the slave born in your household and the foreigner living among you may be refreshed.” Exodus 23:12

“Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”” Luke 13:14

“The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”” Luke 13:15-16

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” Matthew 5:17-18

Seems to stand the test of time. Not sure what causes such panic attacks in this stuff. Anyway, then – just for fun – I googled this phrase you all love to bandy about: “Kingdom Work”

(because “work” was never in My mind when I imagined this world full of Love).

Yet … mostly what comes back is this stuff: church work, funding god’s work, social justice v kingdom work, working as citizens of …, all of which sounds very “contract law, employment law, mission statement, terms and conditions, offers of employment, salary bandings, tribunals, capital expenditure, profit and loss, donations, tithing, charitable status, building maintenance, three quotations, constitutions, councils, … …”

And wow!! That does indeed sound a lot like very wearying “work.”

Paul, is it just Me … or has little changed over the years?”

:-/ ? :-/ ? :-/
