I add value I have value

I work in a company. I have a job. I have responsibilities. I have things to do. I can choose the frame of mind in which I do those things. I have a selection of daily tasks and requests from which I can choose – those I do first and those I leave until later. Sometimes a detail will spring to the top of the list, sometimes someone else’s priority will become mine. Sometimes it is fulfilling. Sometimes it is not. But I have responsibilities. To my family, to my colleagues, clients, and customers – to my company – and to myself.

I think it is called integrity.

I was reading a few verses this morning and He popped a cork from a bottle.

In my “day job” I happily leave loads of things to others. We have sales people, accountants, marketing peeps, consultants, admin support, reception peeps. We have bosses, we have senior and junior peeps, we have a real mix – all necessary to make the organisation flow, make a profit and keep us solvent. I never try and become any of the other skill sets or jobspecs. I have no desire to be the boss or the sales star. Over the years I have discovered a skill set, an approach, an attitude and a way of working that is mine. And that has value.

I add value I have value.

Those verses?

“Jesus departed with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed him; hearing all that he was doing, they came to him in great numbers from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and the region around Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him; for he had cured many, so that all who had diseases pressed upon him to touch him. Whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and shouted, “You are the Son of God!” But he sternly ordered them not to make him known. Mark 3:7-12

How many of us get past the need to be the boss or the sales star? How many of us add value because we have value? How many of us find our skill set, our approach, our attitude and way of loving that is “mine”? How many of us find peace with Him – in who we are – in what we are?

I think it is called relationship.

  1. Despite knowing who we are as children of the Most High God.. and knowing that we are called to be salt and light in our workplaces.. Sometimes it’s hard not to “compare” with someone else. Many of us don’t get past the need to be #1- that’s the world we live in.. Sadly! BUT, we can stand true to our convictions- and really believe in our worth because GOD places His value on us..

    • Hiya Mel – great to see you back here adding a wonderful comment! The word “knowing” always catches my attention. We are great at the theory and then get caught up in the practical. But … oh yay! The BUT!

      I have spent a lot of years knowing better than God – I am rubbish at that, I cannot do this, why does that beat me every time.

      Now I am finding it easier and easier to go with what He gave and hoped for in me – so I am an expert in this, but not in that, I find that really easy, but I find this really tricky – okay lovely God my Father and Friend – guide me to the stuff you want of me. Lets do this together!!

  2. “How many of us get past the need to be the boss or the sales star?” For years I wanted to be a singer on broadway. That was a dream of mine when I was in high school. Somewhere along the road, I realized I wanted a family and that I wanted them to be a priority- so I got a teaching degree. As much fun as it was to sing and be the “star” at times, it has been far more rewarding to help others be a “star”. We all have “value”. Sometimes our value is in helping others see theirs.

    “I think it is called relationship.”- that says it all 🙂

  3. You are and have always been number one. As a matter of fact you always will be. No other like you. You are unique. You have the most important job to do. At the top of the list. The most important and mean the world to him. JESUS! No other matters. It makes no difference what (they) think. He loves you Paul just as you are. Where you are. Yes a relationship you and him.   5. Loved this post (as usual). Our society often leads us to believe that we are always lacking, Yet in Christ, through Him, we are the beautiful people God created us to be. When we look UP instead of out I think it’s easier to comprehend this.
