Consumer goods, stuff, and things (there is heaven)

Yesterday’s post was more personal than most He and me write – a current “now” piece of writing wrapped up in this wonderfully safe “wordpress” style. But inside the wrapping He and me were doing some heavy lifting.

”Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”” Matthew 6:19-23

Because even yesterday the words: “treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal…” were rattling and jangling.

Thieves break in and steal.

Thieves.

Because how often – in these warehouses full of slights, insult, offence, and hurt – do we resent others trying to take some of that from us? How often do we answer the knock at the door with “do not touch – do not remove – do not come near”? How often do we regard those trying to help as “thieves”?

I have.

“Stop trying to make me feel better!” I have said that. And I have had that said to me.

“Stop trying to control me/change me/make me laugh/have me engage/see things in a different way/be positive/stop crying/stop hurting/stop me being angry … just leave me alone!” I have. Others have.

Our warehouses of “treasure” – all the stinky dark slights, insults, pain, and hurt – all those “voices” we can’t control telling us what a shitty life, a crappy person, a can’t do anything we are – all that horrible stuff we really do protect like “treasure” …

We regard those trying to let in light as “thieves” so often. How does that happen?

How does someone who loves us, who wants the best for us, who sees our pain … how do we even think of them as thieves stealing “me from who I am, what I am, what I must ever more be”?

Yesterday’s post was more personal than most He and me write – a current “now” piece of writing wrapped up in this wonderfully safe “wordpress” style. But inside the wrapping He and me were doing some heavy lifting.

Yesterday I found Him setting up that “conveyor belt of greed and envy” – my GSHJ was actually assembling “the conveyor belt of sin” – except He stuck the business end in my warehouses. And what came trundling past was a ton of “stuff” – insults, offences, hurt, pain … What came past was not stuff I wanted. It was stuff I had accumulated. It was a lot of “me” trundling past (I have no idea – nor interest – in where it all went. But my “warehouses” were physically emptied – roomy, light filled, hosed down with the fragrance of love, empty, safe, welcoming).

And my whole day was different. Lighter, easier.

And then last night I had a very unexpected delivery. A shipment of feathers. Soft, fresh, downy, safe, tickly, warming. It was an delivery of connection of the deepest kind. A delivery of Love. So much love!

I have to tell you something about these warehouses. It is the reason for this post …

+ – – + – – + – – + – – + – – +

The crap and hurt is physically heavy. It takes up physical space. When someone tries to steal it – they are stealing something physical from me. I fight back. I hurt back. I protect my physical self. I see a thief and I let the dogs free!

But …

When the warehouse has been emptied and hosed down – and a delivery of Love arrives … ? Love seems not to take up physical space. Love is weightless and “spaceless”. Love is fragrant and bright. These warehouses are never “full to bursting” – never so full that “more love” has to be refused.

Love outflows. Really and truly – love outflows. And connects. I think that you cannot steal love. You cannot be a thief of love. Because Love connects. Love really is “ … treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal …”

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Try it!

Get out that conveyor belt of “envy and greed” – put the business end in your warehouses of pain, hurt and offence … and watch those nasty suckers fly by! Then smell the space – the fragrant space – the light and airy place we also call “me” … no one “stole it” – you simply changed it around a little. Painlessly. Then fill the space with featherlight deliveries of Love. Because people are always delivering Love. People always do – if I have the space to receive it.

And there is heaven (I think).

  1. I hate going to the doctor. No one wants to hear their is something wrong with them. No one likes someone dealing with their business end. Good heavens what might they find? What if I need an operation? Their going to know many sandwiches I have hidden anyway in here. Now this is going to hurt a bit. What? Ouch!!! Don’t I get a sticker, some candy or something? I hate going, but I am somewhat of a hypochondriac. That and I want to live! Maybe even take up flying. ((Hug)) 💊

  2. “Love outflows. Really and truly – love outflows. And connects. I think that you cannot steal love. You cannot be a thief of love. Because Love connects. Love really is “ Really love this line. Amen!

It’s interesting that material things in German is “stoff.” like stuff (pronounced “shtuff”). God wants to set us free from the cares of our shtuff with His love. 🙂
