The One Who Makes Life Come To Life

“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Quite a challenge for an ordinary chap like me. Being perfect in anything is way beyond me for more than a millisecond – once in a blue moon – depending upon who is measuring “perfect”.

That word: perfect. Cannot be improved upon, cannot be any better, has achieved the ultimate being, is “done”!

Jesus said to the disciples, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:43-48

Or ….

brought to completion; fully accomplished, fully developed, Jas. 1:4a; fully realized, thorough, 1 Jn. 4:18; complete, entire, as opposed to what is partial and limited, 1 Cor. 13:10; full grown of ripe age, 1 Cor. 14:20; Eph. 4:13; Heb. 5:14; fully accomplished in Christian enlightenment, 1 Cor. 2:6; Phil. 3:15; Col. 1:28; perfect in some point of character, without shortcoming in respect of a certain standard, Mt. 5:48; 19:21; Col. 4:12; Jas. 1:4b; 3:2; perfect, consummate, Rom. 12:2; Jas. 1:17, 25; compar. of higher excellence and efficiency, Heb. 9:11*
Bill Mounce: Greek Dictionary

And reading Mr Mounce –  getting a sense” of this word “perfect” – playing with this translated word spoken by Jesus – written down later by another – then translated and re-contexted – over and over again …

The word “soulmate” came to mind –

“Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life.” Richard Bach

“If you age with somebody, you go through so many roles – you’re lovers, friends, enemies, colleagues, strangers; you’re brother and sister. That’s what intimacy is, if you’re with your soulmate.” Cate Blanchett

“A soulmate is someone whom, when you meet, without thinking – without letting your neocortex play into the decision – you feel an instant familiarity, a sense of connection, a longing.” Karen Salmansohn

“The idea of a soulmate is beautiful and very romantic to talk about it in a movie or a song, but in reality, I find it scary.” Vanessa Paradis
extracts from Brainyquote

“Be a soulmate, as your heavenly father is a soulmate.” Jesus

“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

The One Who Makes Life Come To Life.

Now that I can relate to.

That I can enjoy.

That I want more and more of every day.

  1. Amen. I believe this is the cross we are called to bear…love our enemies, don’t retaliate, give more than you’re asked…always forgive…don’t judge…do unto others as you would want done to you…what!!! Jesus, you must be kidding! He winks and says, no problem…take my yoke…it’s easy when we do this together. 🙂

    • We always seem to turn trees into icons of oppression! Cross, yoke, burden. Balsa Wood springs to mind. That weigh nothing, carve with anything to hand, always forgiving of anyone’s lack of woodworking skills … that kind of “burden” and “yoke” tree.

      🙂
