Christianity is dying. Churches are slowly emptying. The aging faithful are not being replaced. Are these the end times? Is Jesus coming back to take us? Why are the sinners winning? Why are there no miracles anymore? How do we make more people believe? Why is following God so hard?
Yay, Paul, how’s it going today? Aren’t you just loving this tsunami of gloom and woe? It’s the best reason to get out the old surf board, wax it up nice and slick, and go and find the biggest waves of woe to ride!
Wanna jump on board …?
Find the biggest waves of woe to ride!
I would love to have a brain that could make up this stuff and tell you what a great creative brain I have. However, that would be a fantasy on my part. God Soft Hands Jesus has a certain style all of His own!
I had been drawn to Biblegateway instead of firing–up my daily dose of verses. And under their “verse of the day” was something I had never looked at before. Blogs! And as we are beginning 2017 (and these are Biblegateway bloggers) … Stats!
Statistics on pages … verses … books … searches … keywords … all counted and catalogued by the Biblegateway people.
Here they come Paul – let’s ride …..
Wave of woe: 1,700,000,000 page views over the last 12 months. One point seven billion page views! Seventeen hundred million page views. That is a lot of bible viewing! A whole lot of bible reading. None of it (I am guessing) done in our “emptying churches”. All of it done in our vibrant and personal relationship spaces – our 1:1 space with our own intimate God. One point seven billion!
Wave of woe: 180,000,000 unique visitors. One hundred and eighty million unique visitors! And even allowing for those who clear their cookies cache and are “multiple counted” – that is a whole heap of first-time curious bible seekers. And again, very unlikely all this visiting was done in (never filling) churches – and almost all done in the privacy of someone’s relationship space with God.
Wave of woe: the search term typed-in (when searching the bible) and the favourite search term by a country mile is: “love”. That statistic is the one that makes me smile from cheek to cheek. My favourite statistic above all others. Those four letters were the one thing bible searchers punched in more often than any other. And where there is love there is hope. Hope feeds love as the Word feeds hope. And the greatest of these is …
Wave of woe: the list goes on and on and on …
Woe eee eee WOW eee eee ………………….
So why not spend a few minutes riding these “waves of woe” with Him?
There is more than enough space for all!
There was space for almost two billion just last year!
(and that is from one online bible site!)
Which is a lot of faith, a lot of love, a lot of God.
