I was given these verses today:
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
I know them. You know them. Every wedding planner knows them. We all know “love” – love is the answer – now what is your question.
I know love.
“Love what, Paul?”
Does He ever do that to you?
Love what, Paul?
You know the big-screen blockbuster. When all is progressing as it should be. Then the script takes a weird turn and the storyline is all up in the air. My personal blockbuster: “love is the answer – now what is your question” all progressing nicely – on course for meeting my Maker at life’s end! And then a plot-twist …
Love what, Paul
And before you jump in (as I did) – before you come up with some very sensible answers (as I did) – before even typing these words I had a trillion more words (now deleted) – a zillion other good reasons (now all discarded) – a lifetime’s experience of great answers (“Sorry it’s not any of that either”) … Until my “blockbuster” fizzled out (and is now on pause) … Until I am left only with this:
So which way is “up” and which is “down”? Isn’t “love is always the answer” enough, Lord?
Walk this way, Paul. Let’s find out together …
I used to groan when GSHJ whispered like this. Now I just get excited. I know we are off on another journey.
To a place He wishes me to reach. To a place I don’t even know exists right now. Nor how He will guide me there.
But I do know that the journey will be fun, and I do know the “destination” will be wondrous. Because I do know Him and I do know that.
