What does this parable mean?

He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time? “Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right? As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled on the way, or your adversary may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”
Luke 12:54-59

What does this parable mean, my Lord?

“And a certain man hired another man. The hireling was a skilled tradesman so offered a price which the man agreed. A deposit was paid and materials soon began to arrive.  The work began and the man was impressed. The job progressed and the man and the hireling talked. The hireling became a person to the man. The man listened as the person talked.

Of the difficulties in finding and keeping good workers. Of the pressures to complete work agreed. Of the time to be found to respond to new inquiries. Of deliveries of goods promised and not kept. Of juggling so much time all of the time.  Of how that affected the lives of loved ones.  The man listened and saw just another man.

As the agreed work drew to a close the other man was seen less and less.  More and more the man called. More and more the person gave excuses until the man decided enough was enough. He declared his dissatisfaction to the hireling and requested a sum of money to be refunded with which the man could have another complete the work. The hireling was understanding but disagreed the sum requested. The man explained.  The hireling disagreed.  Harsh words were exchanged.

The man pondered that night why the hireling was so angry. The hireling was a man like any other. Why this response to a reasonable request?  So the next morning man talked with those the hireling had said vouched for the hireling. Yet they did not vouch and said the hireling was being unreasonable. The man told the hireling and the hireling was angry. So the man sought experts to check the work completed. The hireling was very angry. The experts said the work ignored legal regulations and met no reasonable expectations. They said the work must be done again. The man told the hireling. The hireling was exceptionally angry.  So the man sought legal advice. The hireling said do your worst.

The man spoke with trade organisations. The man compiled a legal document of all the evidence. The man took this document to skilled legal practitioners. The legal practitioners complied a comprehensive presentation in law of breach of contract of fraudulent deceit against the claims promised of sub-standard and careless work delivered and of a breakdown in trust that the hireling was ever capable of the promised and agreed contracted works.  And a date for the court case was given.”

The bible may be subject to debate in regard to its use as a historical and factual accurate document (as claimed by many religious and NOT religious folk oddly).  But as a source of humanity and love … ?  We are ALL on display in its pages EVERY day even now – warts and all.
