The Great Christian Dilemma:
Faith V Works
.
I keep seeing these two words taught and discussed. And like much religious teaching and discussion … he takes me back to this:
.
.
And then “teaching” …
.
Love is okay – but which “love” do you really mean:“storge” or “philia” or “eros” or “agape”?
.
And then this:
.
An argument over love.
Framed between two “prostitutes”.
Just as Faith v Works is framed between
“what do you want me to do”
and
“how much are you prepared to pay”
.
To get my eternal life
Do I do it this way or that way … ?
And if both …
How much is necessary …?
Is not love.
.
And if eternal life is MY prize – if doing “good works” is MY penance and/or motivation …
Am I any different to those I think I must save by
MY good works … ?
.
.
This isn’t love
.
.
Nor is this
.
.
Nor is this.
.
Because the debate over
“Faith V Works”
Is not love.
It is this:
.
.
.
Solomon saw “good works” as this …
.
GSHJ often sees my “good works” as this …
.
Which is why I now don’t see “good works” at all …
.
And that is totally liberating!
.
