That is not love and we all know it

.If I preach a message of God like this:  You are no different to anyone else … your reward is now … you dictate whether you add or subtract from those around you … you decide whether or not you build yourself up or wear yourself out … what comes after is no business of yours – Now in this moment is your business … what you make of each moment, what you are in each moment, how that influences what you are in the next moment, how others regard your past moments … THAT is your business … “

I would be told “God is not in that message.”

But if I begin like this: “The kingdom of God is like … “ and end with this: “For to all those who have, more will be given … “ THAT is of God!

The Parable of the Bags of Gold – Matthew 25:14-30

I am a Chosen People still with Matthew.  Parables time – The kingdom of God is like (a sledge-hammer to crack a nut)!  The Parable of the Ten Virgins … The Parable of the Bags of Gold … The Sheep and the Goats …

.

.

Because being Chosen People requires God to come back.  Jesus is a “coming back”  but not in the required format.  Jesus as a man – nailed to a tree shaped as a cross – dying and rising again – erasing the Original Sin of a tree shaped like a tree … THAT wasn’t the proper “coming back” because “that” didn’t change anything at all.  The sun still comes up and goes down.  I still get happy and sad.  Good and bad things still happen.  People are still people.  Politicians are still politicians.  Money is still money.  Taxes are still evil.  Not my problem is still not my problem.  And just look at what God STILL allows – global warming … poverty … famine … genocide (from time to time) … AND still allows other religions/faiths to prosper … AND sinners still get all the good stuff …

So just what did God do for me with this nailed to the tree shaped like a cross thing?

.

.

He forgave you for being you!

The me He created in the first place – the me he knows every detail of – including what will happen in the future but won’t let me know.  The God who still lets me die of cancer and heart failure and dementia.  The God who stopped doing miracles when the bible was finished.  That God …?

That isn’t what Love is all about.

Love is about … “You are no different to anyone else … your reward is now … you dictate whether you Love those around you … you decide whether or not you Love yourself … what comes after is no business of Love – now in this moment is Love … what you make of Love in each moment, what you are of Love in each moment, how that influences what you are of Love in the next moment, how others regard your past and present moment … THAT is Love … “

Because if that isn’t enough …

What does that say NOT of God – but of the god we decide has to be “God”?

.

.

And how is that “All Are Welcome” if “they” are not to be changed into what “we” decide “our God” wants “them” to be … and NOT what God created “them” to be already?  Why change “them” at all … isn’t that “us” telling “our god” that he made a mistake with all of us?   And why spend so much time on when “He comes to take us Home” – but only if you believe what I believe?

Because the “Chosen People” have a real problem with the God “we” worship.  We are worshiping a false god.  The proper God hasn’t come back in any shape or form yet.  And “we” tell them “they” need converting because “we” are right.

And ALL of these arguments are not over “now” … they are over “when I die”.

Which I think is a pile of pooh because that is NOT love in any shape or form.  And the bible (Old and New) preaches and teaches Love.

And those who are not “saved” know this.

But they see “us” arguing about “our reward” when “we” die … nit-picking about how to get it and how to lose it … still using “but what if you were to die tonight?” like a bogey-man … still “giving aid” in return for a bible class or tract and the opportunity to scare the shit out of “them” …

And that is not Love.

And we ALL know it.

So how is “my message” NOT of God?

The more I sit with the Matthew I am told is of God, the more I question if I am with God. It seems to me that what Matthew is presenting is a case in a court of law. A case wherein there is right and there is wrong. A case for the Chosen People to convert to this new faith and religion. The proper faith and proper religion. To change Gods and swap their old god for this new god – the One True God.

I have trained myself to miss things. Because so much of what I miss is a distraction from Love. And I think the Chosen People need their god more than they need (or want) Love. And I am beginning to think all who need religion need a god more than they want or desire Love.

And I don’t think that is what the bible is about.

But that may just be me.

Thank you as always for reading –

    • Hi Pete – CSF was a bunch of us that has since fizzled away. So currently I am the only contributor. I will email you an invite to become an author – and you let me know what you want to do. Any good?

      • What do I want to do? That’s a good question! Occasionally I am guided to write posts about the condition of the church and our relationship to the church and to each other. Since this is outside my normal teaching posts, I would like another outlet for these types of posts, and this is perfect. I have a couple ideas already.

I will by no means be a consistent blogger here, but you will see things pop up. Do you know why the others left? I miss Susan – she was a dear saint and I imagine a big loss to this site.
