Becoming childlike

Yet to meet a child who thinks they get everything that they want.
Yet to meet a child who isn’t grumpy when they are tired.
Yet to meet a child who knows everything.
Yet to meet a child who worries about that.
Yet to meet a child who carries a grudge.
Yet to meet a child who doesn’t change their mind.
Yet to meet a child who cares what I look like.
Yet to meet a child who worries if I am fat or thin
Or tall or short or black or yellow or rich or poor
Or healthy or sick or old or young.
Yet to meet a child who wants me to be in their face all the time.
Yet to meet a child who can’t connect with anyone.
Yet to meet a child who thinks they can’t.
Yet to meet a child who doesn’t enjoy the magic of the tooth fairy or father Christmas.
Yet to meet a child who doesn’t enjoy a cuddle.
Yet to meet a child who is impressed by my sophistication.
Yet to meet a child who in not honest with kindness and love.
Yet to meet a child who won’t yell
“I hate you”
in one breath and
“I love you”
in another.
Yet to meet a child who doesn’t want their own way and who accepts they can’t have that all the time either.
Yet to meet a child who does not notice and act upon my sadness.
Yet to meet a child I could not love as I love our own.

Why do we argue about evolution v creation … bible fact v bible fiction … faith and dogma v faith and dogma … does the bible says this v does the bible say that … are we right v are you wrong … ?

Become childlike.

Is NOT to brainwashed. Is NOT to be naive. Is NOT to be a fool. Is NOT to be evil.

Become childlike.

Is something I am proud to become a little more every day.  When I allow.  Is something I see great value in becoming more and more.  When I allow.  Is something I connect with in others more and more.  When I allow.

“Oooooo-awww!”
Clap with glee.
Dance with excitement.
Laugh aloud.
Watch the fun.
See the fun written all over my face.
Feel the fun vibrating through my body.
Hear the fun in every word I speak.
Allow me to be excited.
Enjoy me being excited.
Don’t ask me to justify and validate and give you evidence and academia.
I don’t know all the answers.
I can’t explain all the unknowns.
All I know is that it’s Christmas and everyone smiles a little more.
There are twinkly lights and houses shining bright.
There are trees decorated and magical.
There are presents of love to gift and wrap.
There is family assembling and jokes to share.
There is news to catch-up and sadness to heal.
There is fun to be had and joy to be shared.
If I allow.

Enjoy the baby.  Enjoy the manger.  Enjoy the moment where love is allowed to be love.  My love and my fun and my excitement might not be the same as yours.  But our love and fun and excitement can connect.  Just as love is love – so too fun and joy and kindness and excitement.

Become childlike.

Has a lot going for it!

Happy Christmas.

  2. A very quiet one here, a smaller group gathered for Service – the best voices. Pastor Bec’s little boy galloping up and down the aisle until either his father caught him or his mother allowed him to assist with the liturgy. He rather enjoyed tugging at the Table to inch the floral display closer to the floor. Last Sunday he found the matches on the lecturn shelf until his mother said ‘will someone relieve me of this troublesome child’. Too much chocolate given and eaten. A good old Aussie chook for dinner crowned the day, Christmas cake for lunch. Happy boxing day tomorrow.
