Let me begin by saying that enduring lockdown has rendered me numb, unable to think properly, just hanging in..Mrs Andrew is currently back in Hospital after another stroke – I have just been informed that my increasing forgetfulness is because both Temporal Horns have shrunken away and my working memory is decaying.
Things are not good here with infection rates in the thousands each night and people who refuse to be vaccinated slowing down the attainment of an 80% vaccination rate which will end Lockdown and send us out into the World of Herd Immunity. Sure there will be more cases and deaths but that is the way it needs to be, just as with any other communicable disease.
So why Triumphant Trumpets – well I had been thinking – yes I can still think, where we had left the Hebrews just outside the Promised land and I thought of Jericho and the week of discordant trumpeting which- ‘and the walls came a tumbling down’. As we sang in Sunday School with all those delightful actions.
After Moses died, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, who was Moses’ aide , as I was with Moses, so will I be with you, be strong, have courage because you will lead these People into the land I promised Moses I would give to you. Keep my Law and guard it in your heart, do not deviate from it ” Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” The Lord is with Joshua and there is to be no doubt about it that this is the book of the glory of God.
Little Historical credence is given to the Book of Joshua, it is a Theological Text meaning a great deal to its bronze age warriors. That the Lord the god of Israel is a Great God!
Immediately we read that God establishes Joshua as another Moses for whom the waters part. The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, who have been allotted territory on the East side of the river swear fealty to Joshua saying “Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses.“
Spies were sent from Shittim or Shit’im to case the land, they were taken in by Rahab the Lady of the night who protected them from the King of Jericho and bargained a life for a life to protect her family. She let them down from her rooftop in a basket like Paul back from the future and tied a red ribbon from her window – the sign of faithfulness-of blood. What did red mean I wonder, idlily. The good ,old web reminds us of the scarlet thread in the Tabernacle’s doors and in the ephod’s of the priests – that it is a symbol of God’s salvation. “The crimson flow from the precious blood of Jesus delivers us from sin” Yes, the ruddy colour of blood, the blood of the Passover Lamb would protect Rahab in her new found faith.
By Faith she was justified and in marrying Salman of Judah, became a direct ancestor of Yeshua ben Joseph.
Trumpeters
Led by the Priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant the flood waters of harvest time backed up while the Priests stood in the middle of the river and Israel passed over alive and dry shod. Forty thousand warriors crossed over and on that day” the Lord exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they stood in awe of him all the days of his life, just as they had stood in awe of Moses.”
Well I have just now recalled the Hill of foreskins so thoughtfully arranged by Joshua prior to battle – hum so we have been this way before. The angel of the Lord, the Holy ground with Joshua unshod upon it, too too Moses.
Seven Priests, with a box, blowing seven horns marched around Jericho for six days but on the seventh day they marched around the city Seven times, blowing their horns and the people shouted and the walls fell. Everyone there, except Rahab were to be ‘devoted to the Lord’ – slaughtered. All the treasure was devoted to the Lord and placed in the sanctuary of the Tabernacle, they devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys. All for the glory of God, such is the grandeur of the Lord god of Israel.
6.27 So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
But Israel were never obedient for long were they?
But Achan’s sin is yet to come another day.
Why do Trumpets topple walls?
I would say that if it happened at all it would be the harmony or dissonance between the frequency of the sound waves and the vibration of the molecules in the wall.
Sorry to hear about your wife, hopefully she will recover. Are you allowed to visit her? I have a friend who was hospitalized during COVID, he said the hardest thing of all was his family not being allowed to visit.

No I wasn’t. I wasn’t even allowed to bring her home when they discharge her. She is home now, brought home by a friend who is a Taxi Driver .He collected the wheelchair from our place and drove it over. She is not100%. They sent her home to empty the hospital + as many others as they could, for Covid-19 patients. 1500 new infections yesterday and only 70% vaccinated. It’s been over 1000 per day for at least a week.
