We are seeing the worst of us humans right now.
Leaders who prefer personal power over public service.
Who change the structure of checks and balances,
Who change a system to keep them in power no matter what.
Who leave promises made to be promises broken by others,
Promises remembered and promises to justify actions today,
Justification for anger and right, for invasion and death.
We are seeing the worst of us humans right now.
And the best.
We are seeing the best of us humans right now.
The faceless who prefer kindness over public posturing.
Who ignore the structure of checks and balances,
Who ignore a system to keep leaders in power no matter what.
Who make no promises but act today from compassion always,
Compassion across borders and cultures to bring kindness today,
Caring not for anger and right, but for humanity and life.
We are seeing the best of us humans today.
And the rest?
I am capable of both the best and worst of me every day after day.
In moments too many where making a choice has no time for a say,
Where instinct and my being who I am are how I will act and react
Too fast in each moment as I instinctively see love or angrily attack.
I have seen the worst of me in those moments and the best of me too.
That my choosing how I am then is my choosing now either bullshit or true.
That choosing to see between that changes me first each time anew
And changing you is always me changing me.
For the absolute truth
Is we only change for the better when we’re safe not just from the worst
But when we’re safe in each moment when there’s no time for choice.
When the choice to be kind is who I am – not who I think you should see
When who you see is the real me without bluster, fact or all that “stuff”.
Then I am enough to make you feel safe to change you (or I am not)
Which makes it about me changing me always and never about you.
Because I am always
Or I am not.
