clearly revealed to the mind or the senses or judgment, or to reveal its presence or make an appearanceMy wife has a Disability Blind Pension which is manifest because her condition is obvious, permanent, to various degrees- therefore it is apparent to both her senses and ours. The child Jesus, about two at the time received, so they say, a visit from Magi, probably from Mesopotamia, they had followed a heavenly phenomenon which eventually led them to Bethlehem, City of David. There is an Armenian tradition identifying the “Magi’ of Bethlehem” as Balthasar of Arabia, Melchior of Persia, and Gaspar of India. What was Manifest is that through these three, gentiles, Jesus was made known to the nations first of all, before the Jews. As we read in Matthew they brought with them gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.
I am posting an article reading as though written by the Magi themselves.
The Legend of Aphroditianus chapter 8, is translated by Katharina Heyden and is taken from “New Testament Apocrypha More Noncanonical Scriptures” edited by Tony Burke and Brent Landau
1We went to the place to which we had been sent, and we saw her, the one who had given birth, and the one who had been born, the star indicating to us the lordly infant. 2We said to the mother, “What is your name, oh renowned mother?” She said, “Mary, masters.” “Where do you come from?” “From this district,” she said, “of the Bethlehemites.” “Do you not have a husband?” She said, “I have only been engaged; the prenuptial arrangements have been concluded, but my thought is divided, for I did not want to come to this affair at all. But while I was giving little concern to it, at the dawn of the Sabbath, at the rising of the sun, an angel came to me announcing suddenly to me a childbirth. I was disturbed and cried out, ‘By no means can this happen to me, Lord! I do not have a husband.’ And he assured me that it was God’s will that I would have the child.”[…] Source: https://perspectivesofafellowtraveler.wordpress.com/2016/12/14/the-nativity-through-abrahamic-literature-part-14-a-picture-of-the-newborn-jesus-the-legend-of-aphroditianus-chapter-8/?The writing tells us that it is the Light of Christ that is the star that guided them to him. That Jesus is the star, Jesus manifested himself as the star. The star was a manifestation! Jesus may appear in whatever form pleases him, even the star that led the nations to him. Jesus is our light who lights up the dark world of our fear and leads us into the light of right. He reveals himself in many ways, through Nature, friend and foe, loss, lack and gain. This Epiphany just past revealed to the world the true light who lightens the darkness and as a lamp before us guides us along that path less traveled by. Our saviour came down to earth to give himself as example to us, when we meet him and our heart receives him he is made manifest in our hearts. There is no doubt that it is he who came to rule to save and to die for us.
We three kings of Orient are; Bearing gifts we traverse afar, Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star.
O star of wonder, star of light, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect light.
Born a king on Bethlehem’s plain Gold I bring to crown Him again, King forever, ceasing never, Over us all to reign.
Frankincense to offer have I; Incense owns a deity nigh; Prayer and praising, voices raising, Worshipping God on high.
Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume Breathes a life of gathering gloom; Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying, Sealed in the stone cold tomb.
Glorious now behold Him arise; King and God and sacrifice; Alleluia, Alleluia, Sounds through the earth and skiesHymn Time we 3 kings
