I have been taught

On a tv programme last night an interviewer commented to the famous interviewee that they didn’t know enough about art to “get” the interviewee’s art.  And the reply was this:

“You don’t need to know anything about art – just whether you like what you see or not – whether it changes you or not.”

That thought was prompted by a comment from a friend who added a new comment under a post I wrote this time two years ago.

It matters not the intent of the artist.  It matters not the state of mind of the artist when they created that art.  It has no relevance to what is pored over and elevated to “I know art” by those who critique professionally works of Art elevated by those qualified in works of Art that merit their professional time and qualified knowledge.  It doesn’t even matter my own journey and state of mind two years ago.

Do I like what I see?  Does it change me or not?

That makes “art” mine and no one else’s.  That makes art of the moment.  That allows me to see art two years ago – today – and two years from now.  That gives me permission to see art change as I change.  That gives me authenticity in “art” when all around me cry “Fake!” (or “false teaching” – or whatever put-down preserves their own insecurities).

“Jesus said, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”” Matthew 11:28-30

Do I like what I see?  Yes I do.  Does it change me?  If I allow.

I see no burden.  I see no duty.  I see no obligation.  I see no service.  I see no sacrifice.  I see little I was taught (by many) from sperm and egg onwards.  I see little that (many of) those qualified in God would have me believe – did have me believe.

Unconditional love is easy.

Is forgiving.  Is an invitation to be who I am.  Unconditional love, for me, is like “light”.  I am light – I am love.

Because a light switched off is still a light.  A light dimmed is still a light.  A light burning bright is not better.  A light of “mood lighting” has great value.  A light ready to be lit has great value.  A light is either a light lit or a light ready to be lit.  And love is that as well.

Unconditional love is not a “kind of love”.  Unconditional love is love lit either as mood-lighting … or as a light burning bright … or as a light ready to be lit … Love “is” … whether “switched on or off”.

I like what I see because I am invited to love unconditionally now.

I am always ready to love.  I do love in an instant and for a lifetime.  I am love … yet have been taught I am not.  I am love … yet have been taught to fear.  I am love … yet have been taught I am sinner not love.

I have been taught God is love and I am not.  I have been taught God needs to forgive my sin before I can love.  I have been taught that no matter how many times I am forgiven I am still sin.  Which means I can never love as God loves  – I can never be love.

I have been taught … much bollocks.
