It’s all about me!

I haven’t missed writing at all, I haven’t missed reading at all, I haven’t missed this part of my life in any way.  And yet having scanned the last three weeks of posts in my reader I am drawn back to the bible and the daily offering of verses.  And that rouses my curiosity.

Why my (chosen) connection between that and this?

Perhaps because the same old “same old” seem to revolve in perpetuity: The bible says this. The bible is wrong. God is great. God is an invention. Religion is misunderstood. Religion is bad. God is in our living. Why does God let bad things happen.  And then politics and the same old same old …  The same emotional self-selecting of “facts” that makes being right a factual objective conclusion (and not an emotional choice and personal investment in belief – obviously).

More and more I see less difference when we talk belief (which we usually are) but call it fact (which we usually do).

“Jesus said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbours, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14

I can choose to agree – which means I buy-into what these verses represent, or I choose to reject these verses – which also means I am rejecting what these verses represent.

Because whatever my choice it isn’t about these three verses.  It is about me and what these verses represent.  And once I have invested me in my choice of belief – I ain’t going to change my mind easily.

Because it’s now about integrity (i.e. my creation of my perceived status and ego and place in the world).  So the stakes are about Me and my creation of beliefs.  But that looks “shallow” – so we make it all about “God and the facts of the bible” … about “Love and the idiocy (or wonder) of loving that way” (that we never can) … we make it about anything and everything else than “me” …  But that’s all it is – it’s all about me whether I defend or attack the whole shooting match as represented by these verses..

Thank God God isn’t so precious! 🙂

Love isn’t about any of this.  All “that” is a created belief like any created belief.  And – like any belief – needs payback to be sustained.  Read the bible … see the interweaved examples of “getting something back” … even in these three short verses: “And … you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Apparently I keep saying this stuff because the bible says so.

And because the bible says so, you all teach investment and reward.  You all read the bible says so and tut-tut (lovingly) at the Pharisees who “didn’t get it” … chuckle (lovingly) at the “dusty peeps” who didn’t either so much of the time … Yet you still don’t get it yourself!

I do not give a flying fig about transaction because love does not weigh-up the cost.

But you all already know all that without me and/or the bible … Your own partner … your own family …. your own children … your own parents.  You don’t need the bible to tell you  – you already know.

So maybe the bible is saying “love is love” – but for everyone – because love can be – and is – so much more than that.

Maybe that is all I have to say.  Maybe that is all you need.  Maybe that is all there is.

And if it is – what is there to fear?

How does that threaten anyone’s true value and worth?  And if it shouldn’t threaten anyone, then why all the fear from those who believe and those who don’t?

Maybe because you have been taught to buy-into the whole shooting match – or to reject the whole shooting match.  Which isn’t about love at all.  It’s all about you (again).  Just like the Pharisees and dusty peeps …

And now you ?
