False teaching

I inhabit a world full of percentages.

Cash collection and the 80:20 rule:
80% of the value of the sales ledger will come from 20% of the clients, so don’t spend 80% of my time on the high volume/low value 20% of the sales ledger.
Recruitment and the numbers game:
for every thousand cv’s we get, a fraction will be suitable for any of the current roles at any given time, and of that small fraction – no more than “x.xx”% of the total will be placed in a permanent role.
For every healthy child “x.xxx”% will not be.
For every one who reaches the top of their chosen profession “xx.xx”% will not.
I was in the top “x.xx”% when I was selected for grammar school as a child.
Some accountants are employed to make “xx.xx”% fit the need: We need to look good – make it happen.

I am a disciple.

What are the chances of that?

John 6 –
“and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick.” …
“Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.” …
“After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”” …
“When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”” …
“Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.”
“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
“Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”
“How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
“This is a hard teaching.  Who can accept it?”
“From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.” …

I was brought up with “hard teaching”.  So I accepted the bible’s hard teaching without question.

My bible hard teaching was that I had to fit in.  I had to be what others expected.  I had to be the best I could (which meant working hard). I was taught the hard work ethic to be a good Christian – to be a success.

And the teaching WAS hard – because the only dots I could see were the ones in front of my eyes from all the hard work!

I was taught the bible and taught the hard work of loving my Creator.  The hard work of being saved and remaining “being saved”. the being saved ethic: duty and obligation,  service and obedience, worship and seeking forgiveness – the “staying saved ethic”.

I was never taught that God is the easiest thing in the world.  Easier than any other relationship I could ever have.  Ever.

No one taught me that with God there are no percentages, no numbers games, no duty and obligation, no service and obedience, no worship and seeking forgiveness.

No one taught me being indwelt is just being filled up with love.  And no one taught me that being filled up with love is to be fearless.  No church taught bible taught God taught me that.

And I see so many who are filled up with love AND who are fearless AND who never read the bible AND never go to church.  I see many now who never see life as hard and as obligation.- who were never taught it was hard work to be to be filled up with love.

I have learned that “hard work” and” being filled up with love” is like oil and water – they don’t mix.  And because “love is love” … “hard work” always floats to the top and is seen as the answer.

We know where we are with hard work: it’s what we have been taught our whole lives.  It’s what the bible teaches.

I was taught.

Love is not hard – it is in my DNA.

And all I have to do to be filled up with love is to embrace my DNA.  And more and more I wonder if that is “being saved” – if that is being freed – if that is finding eternal life.

Love is the greatest – on this hangs all the rest.

“This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

Was my false teaching.
