Okay, Paul,(not you Paul, the one who was Saul) saved from what, how does one know the reason why we can call Jesus’ name and be saved?
Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge..
Roman 10:1,2 NIV
I can remember, when, as a Catholic, while a member of the Legion of Mary, one of our Marian Prayers ended with ‘Pray for Russia’, in the same manner, I guess as Paul yearns for his people to accept Jesus as Lord. The legion prayed that it might become a reality behind the Iron Curtain.
‘The only part of the world where the Legion did not exist in the mid and latter twentieth century is the “Russian part,” that is, Russia itself and the adjacent countries behind the iron curtain. Of course, it is possible that the Legion existed in secret in those countries, but there was no information verifiable at that time.’

In this case zeal did not depend on knowledge but Faith and Belief in the Advocacy of Mary with her divine Son.
Salvation through context
Everyone who believes in Jesus will be saved but! Reading a little context we find ‘As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[e Isaiah 28:16 (see Septuagint)] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[f Joel 2:3]
Salvation depends not upon invoking the Name of Jesus, rather belief in the creed surrounding the statement. Yes! Jesus will save you provided you have heard of him and believe. Whose beautiful feet have come your way?
And this is where Paul says what I consider very meaningful words.
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”[g Isaiah 52:7 ]
The Great commission al la Paul
Before he returned to the Father Jesus told his disciples to go make disciples of all Nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,(Matt:28:19)and with the authority of the holy Spirit to Witness about Him to the ends of the earth, beginning first in Jerusalem and Samaria. (Acts 1:8,9)
It is Paul who suggests how, setting the fear of death and ridicule aside one travels from place to place trusting the Spirit to provide words of power and understanding, to Preach that they may hear and, (romans 1:16) as the Spirit moves in the wind, to believe or not. John 3:8 ( 8 The wind blows wherever it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”)8. As a young and not so young convert the idea of witnessing in a formal way to those not already in the “Club” was not on my Agenda, I couldn’t have spoken the words if they had threatened to leap out of my mouth. So I taught Scripture, lead Bible Studies, joined the Legion of Mary and then John the Evangelist Conference of St. Vincent de Paul. Two organizations where weekly door to door witness or visitations and in the case of SVDP grocery, power vouchers, water vouchers, clothing and whatever else we assessed was required.
As a member of the Legion a few mothers offered their babies for baptism even though they were not practicing Catholics. One year, in my Scripture class there was a young boy who firmly believed in Jesus and wanted to be baptized – but his parents would not have it. Time to explain the Baptism of desire yet he was too young to understand that his intention was perfectly accepted by Jesus.
These days my witnessing about Jesus usually takes the form of Philosophical Discussions tending to be more successful than presenting a Book which many reject outright as a symbol of Social control.
Doxology
Romans 10 – 33-36
33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”[v Isaiah 40:13]
35 “Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”[w Job 41:11 ]
36 For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.
