A cross to die for

continued …

So you really believe the bible is “written” by me?

That’s what I was taught.  And the odd thing is that no other “text” is given the same free-pass.  Everything else is cross-referenced … linked to other sources … checked for accuracy and legitimacy … but the bible is cross-referenced against itself … linked to sources elsewhere in the same bible … checked against Aramaic or Greek not for accuracy and legitimacy, but for accuracy and legitimacy of the translations and revisions since.  The bible is the bible because the bible says so – because you say and you are God – and that makes the bible sacred and accurate and not to be messed with.

And your point is … ?

Nobody dares mess with the bible because it is your words.

So why isn’t this conversation in the bible, Paul?  These are my words.  This conversation is as valid as anything in the bible.  And if the words of the bible are “not to be messed with” then how will you ever know me in my birthday suit?  The bible is me in my Sunday best.  Dressed up without a flake of dandruff to be seen.  Nothing out of place everything pressed and perfect.  Even this nailing and dying.  Stage managed.  Cast-type.  Directed and produced.  Do you want to see something … ?

Ummm … sure.

WHOA!!! How did you just appear beside me?  You’re meant to be nailed to this cross now suddenly vacant … meant to be dying a gruesome death now looking in rude health .. meant to be up there now sitting beside me … … … … How did you do that?

I changed the script … moved the props … took a break … whipped out a special effect … did a bit of CGI … I am God and I can do whatever I like.  That’s what you all tell me:  “God can do anything.”  So I have just hopped off the cross because I can.  You look bigger now I am down here instead of up there.  What about me – do I look bigger or smaller?

Smaller.  You look smaller.  You look … “normal” … … … …

Get back up there!  You aren’t meant to be down here.  You have to die this afternoon so you can buried before coming back to life and looking ready to go back to heaven.  You haven’t got time to be sitting here beside me …

You … have …. Dying to Do!

You look worried.  I thought you weren’t sure this cross and me were real.

But you’re messing with the bible and the bible is the word of G … o … … …

…and I am God?

I am pretty sure that’s what you were about to say.  So let me say it for you: if the bible is the word of God, and if I as God mess with the bible (like I am illustrating right now by sitting here beside you rather than up there on the cross as I should be) – then what is your problem?  Why are you struggling with seeing “God” mess with “His” own bible if it is indeed The Word of God?  Shouldn’t me messing with my word be the best thing that ever happened to you?

Bu …

Imagery, Paul.

That’s why it disturbs you.  Your imagery is set in stone.  The bible – all of it – has been recreated by each of you – corporately and individually – and is now all imagery.  Always was all imagery.

You keep looking up at the empty cross – then at me sitting right beside you.  You’re still itchy about YOUR imagery of YOUR cross being shaken.  Doesn’t THAT tell you something about “the bible”?

You mean it doesn’t matter if the bible is fact or fiction … doesn’t matter if it is evidence or not … I will make the bible “imagery” no matter fact OR fiction – I make MY imagery  more real than facts ever can be or will be … That kind of “tell” … ?

Exactly.  It’s called “belief” by the way.  So all these arguments about biblical and scriptural correctness … all of “that” is just YOU arguing about YOUR imagery … arguing over what YOU have made the bible.  Which means the bible never was “The Word of God” … the bible always is and always was “The Imagery of Man”.

So we are arguing about protecting our creation of you … ?  A creation symbolised by this cross in front of us (that you really should get back on before someone notices you aren’t) … ?

Sounds about right to me.  But before I hop back up there … you ready to hear something else … ?
